On February 11, 2009, United Way Monterey County launched a new program designed to assist residents of Monterey County to easily connect to a wide variety of health and human services.  This information can be accessed in two ways.

First, by using the easy-to-use and easy-to-remember phone number 2-1-1 (pronounced Two One One) connecting you to trained Call Specialists who provide confidential assistance.  Calling 2-1-1 is fast, free and available in 170 languages, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The second way is through this website.  By using the search feature in this website you will be linked to the same database that the Call Specialist use to make referrals over the phone.

In times of disaster 2-1-1 is designed to relieve the burden on 9-1-1 by providing the community with vital information about evacuation sites, temporary shelters, road closures, etc.

The 2-1-1 system is also designed to connect volunteers to organizations and agencies that are seeking volunteers.

If you need to know where to go for help but don’t know where to begin, start with 2-1-1.  You will be given referrals (names and phone numbers) of organizations that provide the type of service you are seeking.
