Mission
The Volunteer Center of United Way Monterey County’s mission is to engage the community and focus resources to improve lives in Monterey County . We carry out this mission by matching volunteers with meaningful opportunities to serve in our community. We partner with hundreds of community-based nonprofits throughout the county to link them with volunteers who have the skills and interests that match their organization’s needs. Whether you want to become a volunteer or recruit volunteers for your organization, we can help.
The following community programs are also available:
CalWORKs
In conjunction with the Monterey County Department of Social and Employment Services we work to place welfare recipients in volunteer opportunities in order for them to gain work experience and develop skills to assist them in attaining employment.
Caminos
This program places expelled students in meaningful volunteer opportunities in order to complete required community service hours for re-admittance into school. Our philosophy is that any youth can be transformed through service activities and positive interactions with caring adults in the community. Students participate in weekly “Reflections” sessions which provide skill-building exercises and allow for personal reflection on their experience.
Community Service Awards
For more than 30 years, the Volunteer Center has hosted an annual volunteer recognition celebration to recognize and honor the efforts of our outstanding community volunteers. To nominate a volunteer from your community, use the application found here.
